Optimising Pregnancy Nutrition

Pregnancy nutrition is not as simple as just taking any old prenatal off the pharmacy shelf. Many conventional products fall short in providing essential nutrients. We can do so much better!

When you see a naturopath specialising in pregnancy care at Peppermint & Sage, our goal is to optimise your nutrition so you don’t only have a baby, but the healthiest baby you can possibly have. And because growing a brand new human from scratch is a nutrient-demanding task, we need to support this:

The goals for antenatal nutritional supplementation

  1. Support healthy embryonic & foetal development- physically and neuro-developmentally

  2. Minimise maternal depletion

  3. Reduce the risk of pregnancy complications where possible

  4. Reduce the risk for post-partum complications/issues

Considerations for individualised pregnancy care under practitioner guidance:

Monitoring & addressing iron stores

A high-quality prenatal vitamin: containing methylated folate, iodine, choline, zinc, B vitamins & more

High quality Omega-3 DHA & EPA

Other: Calcium, strain-specific probiotics, vitamins/minerals based on blood testing

As always, care is individualised and working with an experienced practitioner is the best way to ensure it is done safely & suitable to your needs. A naturopath’s goal and role is to work alongside your primary care provider-such as your OB, midwife & GP.

In addition to these goals, we can also support common pregnancy complaints such as nausea (nausea & vomiting in pregnancy), digestive disturbances (reflux, constipation), vaginal microbiome disturbances that may arise, optimising your sleep, and optimising your diet.

At Peppermint & Sage, we specialise in naturopathic pregnancy support, having supported hundreds of pregnant women to achieve these goals and a healthy baby.
